Hot Potatoes

Unlike the name, hot potatoes is a software which can be used for teaching and learning. There are 6 types of hot potatoes: JQuiz, JCloze, JMatch, JCross, JMix, and The Masher.

Each has their own types of game. JQuiz is a multiple-choice or short-answer quiz. JCloze is a fill-in-the-blanks exercise. JMatch is a matching exercise. JCross is a crossword puzzle. JMix is a jumbled sentence exercise, and the last one, The Masher, is a sequence of exercises built into a complete indexed unit.
So, this time, we were told to create two kinds of quizzes, except JQuiz, based on the news in newspaper or other topics. I chose JCross and JCloze, and the source for the quiz is from a newspaper. The topic is about food, Mediterranean diet, to be precise.
These are the steps to create a quiz from Hot Potatoes. The steps below is for the JCross.
1. The first step is to open the software and click on the JCross.

2. Next, there will be small boxes like this. Type the title of the quiz in the white box on the left.

3. Then, you can write the letters (answers) in each box. There are only across and down in this JCross.
4. After you finish writing the answers, you can click on the Add Clues, so you can write the questions according to where you put the answers.

5. If you have finished creating your JCross, save it and then click on the export to create a hot potatoes version 6 web page. The file would be in .htm
6. To post your JCross online so that everyone can see and play, you have to upload your .htm file to google drive, and then copy the link and share it to your friends.

So that's all about the steps on how to create JCross. There are some benefits and also drawbacks in using this software.
The benefits are:
- It is fun
- It is educating, because we learn about new things
- It is very useful for new teachers
The drawbacks are:
- It's quite hard to make the JMatch because the instructions weren't very clear.
- It might be too easy for kids in today's generation

Below this is my Hot Potatoes quiz (JCross and JCloze). Don't hesitate to try and good luck! Please leave your comments below, thank you:)
