TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a media organization which posts talks online for free distribution, under the slogan "ideas worth spreading". TED was founded in February 1984 as a conference, which has been held annually since 1990. TED's early emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins, but it has since broadened its focus to include talks on many scientific, cultural, and academic topics. For me personally, I have never experienced a flipped classroom approach before, so this is my first time making and also using TED ED. It is quite simple to create a lesson in TED ED, and it would be very effective if we use it in Indonesian classrooms. Why? Because nowadays people use technology to support their study and I personally think Indonesia cannot be left behind as well. So this is very recommended for Indonesian teachers, and also for those who is in the middle of a change from whiteboards to laptops.
The technique in making a lesson using TED ED is simple enough for teachers, especially the first-timers. This is also my first time using TED ED, and I had lots of fun making a lesson with it. You just need to register (if you don't have an account) and you can create a lesson afterwards, as simple as that. Type the title or topic you want to create, and the video will be shown. You just need to choose one video and then you can start creating your own lesson.
By using this flipped classroom, teachers who cannot make it into class can just share their TED ED link and tell the students to do it as an assignment. It would be very helpful since the teacher doesn't have to be there in class, the students can learn by themselves through the flipped classroom.
I didn't use any editing tools on my video because I have already picked a video I want which is comprehensive enough for my lesson. So here's my lesson on TED ED. The topic is adjectives, and it is specifically made for 3rd graders. The objectives are to understand adjectives and how to use adjectives to describe someone or something.
My lesson begins with a brief explanation about what adjectives are, and there is a video below it about adjectives and how to use adjectives properly. After watching the video, there will be a small quiz based on it (multiple choice and open answer quiz). Then, in the think deeper section, I have linked more information about adjectives (the words). There is also a discussion room where students can share their thoughts on adjectives. And finally, I made a conclusion to close my lesson. You can open my lesson by clicking this.
So that's all about TED ED and my lesson, please leave your comments below. Thank you!
Hello Vena! I absolutely agree with what you are thinking, "Indonesia cannot be left behind." People always say that Indonesia is left far behind the other country. I hope Indonesia can try to use this method immediately.
